Before the adaptive martial arts, adaptive individuals are unaccepted in martial arts classes but that has been changed fairly recently. As a result, adaptive individuals have recently been accepted in the martial arts and these are kids or adults with ADHD, autism, and other special needs. In this episode, Jeremy is joined by Mrs. Patty Thomas, an occupational therapist from the Adaptive Martial Arts Association, and Master Kellie Thomas, an adaptive martial arts instructor, who is devoted to the advocacy of helping adaptive martial artists. Episode 466 - Mr. Jason Davis


Mr. Jason Davis is a martial arts practitioner and he is the founder of the Adaptive Martial Arts Association (AMAA).

Not as much was known about disabilities then. And over the phone, my parents were told that I couldn't train and I never would be able to train and it didn't actually make sense. It was a pretty big blow and I didn't understand because that was the first time I was ever told that I couldn't do something.

Mr. Jason Davis - Episode 466

Martial arts changed his life. That sums up what the journey is like for Mr. Jason Davis. He was born with cerebral palsy and he was thought of not going to survive by the doctors at that time. When Mr. Jason Davis was 8 years old, he was turned away from a martial arts school because of his condition. Today, he leads the Adaptive Martial Arts Association (AMAA), an organization he founded, which aims to help adaptive individuals to pursue their journies into the martial arts. Getting into a martial arts class can be expensive most of the time so when an opportunity came, Sensei Jenny Siu grabbed it. Sensei Siu Started as a little kid playing pretend karate with the boys in her neighborhood until her Aunt gave her a Christmas present to join a 12-week karate class. And the rest is history. Today, Sensei Jenny Siu has founded a school with her husband, Sensei Gabriel Siu, passing along all the knowledge they learn through the tough times. Listen to find out more!

Miss Samantha Win - Episode 462


Miss Samantha Win is a martial arts practitioner and actor from Barrie, Ontario. Now living in California, she has been featured in the films Wonderwoman and Man of Steel.

Indulging in your pain. Knowing that that pain is making you stronger, just like in training, all the times you're suffering, you're so much stronger when you come out of it. Just knowing that and having experienced that on a physical level gave me a lot more emotional strength than I was expecting.

Episode 462 - Miss Samantha Win

After being literally forced to train in jiujitsu at age 4, Miss Samantha Win has made martial arts her lifestyle all through her life. At a very young age, Miss Win became aware that acting and martial arts can go together. She has been featured in the films Wonderwoman and Man of Steel, to say the least. Miss Win, aka Samantha Jo, has also represented Canada for wushu and won a bronze medal at the 2007 World Wushu Championships. With all the hats she wears, Miss Win has a lot of interesting stories to tell so listen to find out more!
