Sensei Hanlon recalls how he got started in martial arts as a kindergartener, when he wanted to be a Ninja turtle. His love and obsession for martial arts, which drove him to train consistently and compete in tournaments.

Presently, Hanlon is the owner and head instructor of Hanlon's Martial Arts Academy in Whitewater, Wisconsin. He is a 5th-degree black belt in Taekwondo and a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Episode 814 - Mr. Yuri Lowenthal


Mr. Yuri Lowenthal is a Martial Arts Practitioner and Enthusiast. He appeared as the voice actor for Spiderman, Goku, and Superman to say the least.

I went to New York from Japan and while I was there, I’ve found a Kung Fu and Wushu school. I knew after checking out the school, I finally found what I really love about Martial Arts. It had that fluid quality that I wanted. They were not focusing on sparring all the time. The Chinese instructor just wanted people to study Kung Fu.

Mr. Yuri Lowenthal - Episode 814

Mr. Yuri Lowenthal, a self-proclaimed nerdy kid, grew up in the 80s as Kung Fu movies and Anime started to gain popularity. Mr. Lowenthal's interest in martial arts began when his dad was working for USAID in West Africa, where they found a Korean teacher who taught Tae Kwon Do to the Nigerian police.

Lowenthal's love for Japanese culture led him to Japan, where he studied the language and joined a Shaolin Kempo Club. He even fronted an American music band at the invitation of one of the Japanese students he met. At present, when Mr. Yuri Lowenthal has free time, he does voice acting for our most beloved characters in animated films and games such as Spiderman, Goku, Superman, Final Fantasy and so much more.

Episode 810 - Professor Dan Anderson


Professor Dan “Super Dan” Anderson is a Martial Arts practitioner, instructor, and the founder of American Freestyle Karate.

So I get up in front of him, I actually walked right in front of him. I cut off his path and I said, excuse me, you're Mr. Bruce Lee, aren't you?

Professor Dan Anderson - Episode 810

Who would’ve thought that our show’s legendary guest today was a failed baseball player before training in Martial Arts? No matter how uncommon martial arts was back in the 60s and there were only two dojos in Portland at the time, Professor Dan Anderson pursued training in martial arts. Eventually, Professor Anderson would create the American Freestyle Karate, a uniquely American Martial Art.

Super Dan, as he is widely known, has a 10th Degree Black Belt in Karate, a 6th Degree Black Belt (Senior Master) in Filipino Modern Arnis, and a 9th Degree Black Belt in MA80 System Arnis/Eskrima. He is a 4-time national karate champion and world champion, having won over 70 Grand Titles! He has taught all over the world as well as authored/produced over 50 books and DVDs.
