Episode 494 - Sifu Georgeanne Verigan


Sifu Georgeanne Verigan is a martial arts practitioner and instructor at the White Dragon Martial Arts of New Hampshire. She is a nationally certified acupuncturist.

If I do find another teacher, I'm willing to be a humble student. I went into every school that I went into as a white belt. I didn't go in and said I'm a black belt in Kempo, no. I went in and said, I'd like to train.

Sifu Georgeanne Verigan - Episode 494

For someone who started her journey in the martial arts later than usual, Sifu Georgeanne Verigan has accomplished more than a handful who started at an earlier age. Sifu Verigan, who trained to have something to do in her free time, has been teaching in her own schools and has been inducted into the World Martial Arts and the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Presently, Sifu Georgeanne Verigan is an instructor at the White Dragon Martial Arts of New Hampshire. Listen to learn more about the journey of Sifu Verigan!

Mr. Mike Crooks is a martial arts practitioner in a couple of disciplines including Karate. He is a stage-4 cancer survivor.

I've always practiced every single day what I've learned to some degree. There's not a day that's gone by that my hands aren't moving, my legs aren't kicking, thinking of a throwing technique or what have you.

Mr. Mike Crooks started playing around the dojo with his father and eventually started training up until today. For Mr. Crooks, constantly training in martial arts keeps the mental and physical aspects of a person always in-tune. However, a life-changing event would make him fight another battle as he was diagnosed with cancer. Episode 490 - Dr. Sanko Lewis


Dr. Sanko Lewis is a martial arts practitioner and instructor of Taekwondo and Hapkido. He teaches in South Korea and South Africa.

People often think that the reason why the karate punch comes from the hips straight to the target is strategic because the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. But, it could very much be purely aesthetic and not strategic.

In this episode, we are immediately faced with the question of how a South African ended up living and teaching taekwondo in South Korea? Dr. Sanko Lewis grew up watching kung fu movies of Jet Li and Bruce Lee. He initially wanted to learn kung fu but he found taekwondo instead because it was the only thing available in his country back then. Presently, he is now living in South Korea where he got his PhD in Taekwondo and he teaches ITF Taekwondo. Listen to learn how his journey ended up in South Korea!
