Having the interview on his birthday, Professor Chris Pizzo did not think twice about sharing his journey to the martial arts. Professor Pizzo, aka Captain Chris and Lieutenant X, started training at age 5 like most of us and started training at Brazilian Jiujitsu when the UFC had just started. Kru Christopher Ballard is a martial art practitioner and instructor at the United Fighting Arts Institute in Vermont.

I think there was enough good stuff both mentally, phisically, and spiritually that I gained from doing traditional martial arts that helped me go into kickboxing.

Most of the time, we would ask our parents if we can get into a martial arts class but when parents ask us to go, we go. Kru Christopher Ballard began his martial arts training in Taekwondo at the age of 11. His passion for martial arts deepens upon discovering a more intense and full-contact sport in kickboxing and Muay Thai that he literally went to great distances just to train during his youth and even up to this day. Kru Ballard credits his martial arts training in bringing him to different roads in his life, both planned and unplanned, which only made his story all the more fascinating. Episode 412 - Shifu Chris Goedecke


Shifu Chris Goedecke, aka Hayashi Tomio, is a martial arts practitioner and instructor. Shifu Goedecke is the headmaster of the Isshin Kempo Wind School in New Jersey.

If you've been doing martial arts for a very long time, it's impossible not to cross into the mental side of it. You can be in the mental side right in the beginning, but I mean really sink in in the mental side of it.

During his childhood, he heard about karate on a tv show and he immediately went to the bookstore and got some books about martial arts. Shifu Chris Goedecke started his journey to the martial arts when karate was just beginning to spread in the United States. He trained under the founder of Isshin Kempo, W. S. Russel. Shifu Goedecke also has a deep connection with Buddhism being an ordained Buddhist and he has written a couple of books about karate. Shifu Chris Goedecke told a lot of his lifelong experiences so listen to learn more!

Episode 410 - Sensei Lee Taylor


Sensei Lee Taylor is a martial arts practitioner and teacher at different clubs in the United Kingdom. He trained under Iain Abernathy and the host of 10 Minute Dojo Podcast.

I opened up a club in my hometown, which is quite ironic because that's where I started with my uncles previously. From then on, it got ti a point where I thought, this is what I want to do as a profession. I quit my job and become a full time instructor.

Who would've thought that seeing people training in martial arts across the street would make an impression to a 5-year-old? It stayed on Sensei Lee Taylor's mind until he finds out later on that his uncle participates in karate tournaments and everything was history after that. Sensei Taylor made martial arts his full-time career by starting his own gym. However, his training and teaching came to a halt when he suffered a car crash with his son.
